Conserving battery life has always been a major concern for any laptop users, including Apple MacBook users. To help Aussie Mac users maximize their MacBook battery life, today BattAussie battery experts compiled following \u00a0tips to extend your Apple laptop battery life.<\/p>\n<p>1.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><strong>App Nap<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>is a feature that slows down apps that are on the background to not consume too much battery on your laptop computer.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Apple A1189 Laptop Battery\" href=\"http:\/\/www.battaussie.com\/apple\/a1189-battery.htm\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-911\" src=\"https:\/\/www.battaussie.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/apple-a1189-battery.jpg\" alt=\"apple-a1189-battery\" width=\"300\" height=\"161\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.battaussie.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/apple-a1189-battery.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.battaussie.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/apple-a1189-battery-150x80.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nLeaving this on will make your battery life longer but the apps to start up slower. But if multitasking is important for you, you can disable this feature by right clicking on the app and click Get Info and check &#8216;Prevent App Nap&#8217; for the app to respond quickly.<\/p>\n<p>2.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><strong>Lowering MacBook brightness<\/strong>\u00a0on your screen could save your battery a lot of hours. Clicking F1 can adjust your Mac&#8217;s brightness display and lowering it preferably below the half mark would increase\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.battaussie.com\/apple\/15-inch-macbook-pro-battery.htm\">Apple 15 inch macbook pro battery<\/a> life.<\/p>\n<p>3. <strong>Notification Center<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>can also consume battery if it constantly gives you push notification. Turning the &#8216;Do Not Disturb&#8217; feature for the notification center could help.<\/p>\n<p>However, if this feature is not useful for you, you could delete the notification center permanently by doing some tweaks in Terminal.<\/p>\n<p>Enter the following command in Terminal:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>sudo defaults write \/System\/Library\/LaunchAgents\/com.apple.notificationcenterui KeepAlive -bool false<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>After that, enter this command:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>killall NotificationCenter<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>by logging out of your Mac and logging back in, all notifications will be gone forever which could help with Mac battery.<\/p>\n<p>4. You can check which application is using the most energy and turn it off if you&#8217;re not using it. With the Yosemite&#8217; new<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Activity Monitor\u00a0you can see the application that eats up a lot of battery by enabling &#8216;show&#8217; Energy Impact by right clicking on the headers on the Activity Monitor and click the &#8216;Energy Impact&#8217; to see what program uses the most energy and close that application if not in use.<\/p>\n<p>5. <strong>Auto App Updates<\/strong>\u00a0has been added in Yosemite. It automatically updates apps in the background and it could consume battery if you are unaware of the update and could be a pain if you are running out of\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.battaussie.com\/apple\/a1322-battery.htm\">Apple a1322 battery<\/a><\/strong> that you need.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>You could turn this feature off and update an app on a more comfortable time you want by going to system preference then app store and uncheck install app updates.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.battaussie.com\/apple\/a1281-battery.htm\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-912 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.battaussie.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/apple-a1281-battery-1024x347.jpg\" alt=\"apple-a1281-battery\" width=\"782\" height=\"265\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.battaussie.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/apple-a1281-battery-1024x347.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.battaussie.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/apple-a1281-battery-300x101.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.battaussie.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/apple-a1281-battery-150x50.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.battaussie.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/apple-a1281-battery.jpg 1428w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 782px) 100vw, 782px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n6. Always<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><strong>disable Bluetooth<\/strong>\u00a0when not in use. If working on the road and a wireless keyboard or mouse is not in use, disable the Bluetooth from your MacBook as it will constantly look for another device causing it to use battery that you might need.<\/p>\n<p>7. When not in use,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><strong>disabling the wireless network<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>would drastically increase Apple battery life as all apps that need internet would be turned off including push notifications such as emails and the like.<\/p>\n<p>8.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><strong>Energy Saver<\/strong>\u00a0option is available for the Yosemite and enabling it would reduce battery drain and will help your battery in the process. Energy Saver include choosing to put hard disks to sleep, when possible, and dimming the display when running on the battery.<\/p>\n<p>9.\u00a0 As much as possible<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><strong>avoid using an optical drive<\/strong>\u00a0and even leave a CD or DVD inside as it may still be running even if not in use causing the battery to drain as well.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Apple Mac users have received the new upgrade with new features namely OS X Yosemite.
