This means the company&#8217;s future smartphones may hold their charge for twice as long as today&#8217;s handsets.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.battaussie.com\/acer\/as07b31-battery.htm\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1132\" src=\"https:\/\/www.battaussie.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/acer-as07b31-laptop-battery.jpg\" alt=\"acer-as07b31-laptop-battery\" width=\"740\" height=\"417\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.battaussie.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/acer-as07b31-laptop-battery.jpg 740w, https:\/\/www.battaussie.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/acer-as07b31-laptop-battery-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a>Samsung unveiled the new battery technology in a report published last week in the science journal Nature Communications.\u00a0As reported by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ozbatt.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">OZBatt<\/a>, the smartphone battery uses a silicon anode\u00a0\u2014 which offers more battery capacity than a traditional battery\u00a0\u2014 with layers of graphene on top &#8220;to improve the density and longevity that would otherwise suffer.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The graphene layers anchored onto the silicon surface accommodate the volume expansion of silicon via a sliding process between adjacent graphene layers,&#8221; Samsung&#8217;s report notes. &#8220;When paired with a commercial lithium cobalt oxide cathode, the silicon carbide-free graphene coating allows the full cell to reach volumetric energy densities of 972 and 700\u2009Wh\u2009l<sup>\u22121<\/sup> at first and 200th cycle, respectively, 1.8 and 1.5 times higher than those of current commercial lithium-ion <a href=\"http:\/\/www.battaussie.com\/dell\/inspiron-1520-battery.htm\">inspiron 1520 batteries<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<dl class=\"show\"><\/dl>\n<dl class=\"\">\n<dt><a title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ozbatt.com\/hp\/\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ozbatt.com\/dell\/latitude-d620.html\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ozbatt.com\/images\/banner1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"517\" height=\"162\" \/><\/a>A separate report from <i>Korea Times<\/i>, meanwhile, said that Lenovo\u00a0is also working on a new battery technology for smartwatches. It&#8217;s hexagonal and could improve storage <a href=\"http:\/\/www.battaussie.com\/toshiba\/pa3534u-1brs-battery.htm\">Toshiba pa3534u-1brs notebook battery<\/a>\u00a0capacity by 25 percent.\u00a0But don&#8217;t expect to see it in Samsung&#8217;s next flagship handset just yet. Given that this is still a research project, it could be years before the technology actually makes its way to market.
